Who We Are
Vision and Mission
We Care Solar promotes safe motherhood and reduces maternal mortality in developing regions by providing health workers with reliable lighting, mobile communication, and medical devices using solar electricity.
We Care Solar was founded by wife and husband duo, Dr. Laura Stachel, obstetrician, and Hal Aronson, solar energy educator. We Care Solar initially designed and assembled Solar Suitcases for midwives at maternal health clinics in northern Nigeria. As word of our innovative power solution spread, we received requests from health workers around the world.
Our team of passionate professionals has a diverse range of backgrounds and a shared commitment to impactful work. We are based in Liberia, Sierra Leone, Uganda, the United States, and Zimbabwe.
We partner with Governments, UN Agencies, and local and international NGOs in both the health and energy sectors. Our partners co-lead implementation to improve maternal health outcomes through the provision of reliable lighting and electricity. We Care Solar initiatives would not be possible without the incredible generosity of our funders and supporters.
We Share Solar
We Share Solar is We Care Solar’s educational program. We Share Solar empowers students to be global changemakers. By combining solar energy and engineering education with real-world applicability, trained teachers cultivate students’ interests in STEM subjects and inspire them to meet an immediate need in other parts of the world.
