The Edison Awards announced April 4 that We Care Solar was voted a 2019 Gold Award Winner in product innovation for its Solar Suitcase 3.0, which was developed in partnership with Arrow Electronics.
The awards are named after inventor Thomas Alva Edison (1847-1931). Nominees were judged by a panel of more than 3,000 business leaders including past award winners, academics and leaders in the fields of product development, design, engineering, science and medical. We Care Solar won in the category of Humanitarian Technology.
We Care Solar designs and installs rugged “Solar Suitcases” that are complete, compact, and tailored for childbirth and provide sustainable energy for around-the-clock medical lighting, fetal monitoring and devices, enabling health workers to provide timely, effective obstetric care. We Care Solar worked with Arrow Electronics to improve the medical lights on the Solar Suitcase, improve manufacturability and production costs
“Once again, the winners created innovations that are revolutionizing industries and becoming indispensable,” said Frank Bonafilia, executive director of the Edison Awards. We Care Solar was recognized “as a true innovator out of the many products in its category,” Bonafilia said.
