WE CARE Solar is proud to present “Stand Alone Solar Electricity for the Developing World,” a two-day intensive class that promotes solar energy literacy and assembly of the WE CARE Solar Suitcase. Our September class was a great success, drawing in students from California, Washington, Peru, and Alaska. Hal Aronson and Mike Strykowski guided the energetic group in a range of topics, including: Principles of DC electricity, Safety Procedures, Use of a Multimeter and other Electrical Tools, Sizing a Stand Alone System, Building a Solar Suitcase, Commissioning and Quality Control, Troubleshooting, and Maximizing Functionality of the Solar Suitcase. The class constructed and commissioned solar suitcases for deployment to Haiti and Burma. Students were delighted with the information-packed classes, and shared their own plans for creating and deploying solar suitcases around the world. The excellent teacher-to-student ratio provided much opportunity for individual attention, and students reported that the class exceeded their expectations.

Several spaces are left for the October 8th and 9th class, with partial scholarships made possible by a generous grant from the Shearwater Foundation. To sign-up for the next workshop ($125 per student) or for more information, please contact Mike Strykowski at (707) 888-3044, or write to us via our contact sheet (see the heading “Contact Us.”) We look forward to seeing you in October!
