Venture Strategies is a nonprofit organization created to improve the health of low income people in resource-poor settings, making use of local market forces around the world. They provided essential guidance and organizational support to us in 2010.
The Bixby Center for Population, Health, and Sustainability, located at UC Berkeley, is a collaboration of students, faculty, researchers, and staff working to address the critical impact of population on global public health and the environment. The Center is dedicated to developing innovations in reproductive health for resource-poor settings, including reliable health information systems and local access to essential technologies to help guide policy makers in prioritizing interventions to maximize health impact.
UBS Optimus Foundation (UBSOF) supports the development, validation, promotion and dissemination of innovative approaches and ideas to improve the education, protection and health of disadvantaged children around the globe. UBSOF has supported our work in Liberia, where we have partnered with the World Health Organization and the Liberian Institute for Biomedical Research to bring Solar Suitcases to rural health clinics and document its health impact in developing countries like Liberia.
Big Ideas @ Berkeley marketplace lets alumni, corporate and foundation partners, friends, and family support Berkeley undergraduate and graduate students who are passionate about tackling major global, regional, and local challenges such as clean energy, the environment, public health, safe drinking water, public policy, and technology-based entrepreneurship. Big Ideas were the initial sponsors of WE CARE and were instrumental in bringing attention to this project when it was in its infancy.
Everbright Solar, Inc. is a vertically integrated manufacturer and factory direct seller of Evergreen string ribbon solar cells, mono crystalline and multi crystalline solar cells. Charles Liu, CEO, has provided ongoing support for our work, proving low-cost solar panels for our installations around the world. Now we have partnered to create a new light weight solar panels specifically designed to fit inside our solar suitcase.
Solar Energy International (SEI) was founded in 1991 as a non-profit educational organization with the following mission: to empower people around the world through the education of sustainable practices. SEI has been a source of inspiration, and in the last two years has partnered with us to teach students and educators how to make our popular Solar Suitcase.
Tom Ohlsson is an innovative radio engineer who has provided ongoing consultation and expert design of the two-way radio system. He has supplied the ICOM two-ways radios that are now in use in our pilot site, and designed a novel system to extend the range of the radios to 10 – 12 miles.
Inveneo has provided guidance for our efforts since our inception, and provided fiscal sponsorship for WE CARE Solar before we obtained our 501.c.3 status. Their mission is to get the tools of information communications technology (ICT), such as computers, telephony, and Internet access to those who need it most — people and organizations in rural and highly underserved communities of the developing world.
The Segal Family Foundation creates “efficient investments and effective charitable solutions that improve life in sub-Saharan Africa.” This foundation has provided funding to help us build our organization and has supported the deployment of several solar suitcases in Tanzania and other East African nations.
Shearwater Foundation provided generous support for our educational programs, allowing us to train individuals in the priniciples of solar electricity and in the assembly of solar suitcases for our programming.
